While many of Marin County’s most popular attractions feature outdoor adventures, the Lodge at Tiburon is only 20 minutes from dozens of fantastic indoor attractions just across the bay in San Francisco.

When first venturing across the Golden Gate Bridge, art lovers first should stop by the de Young Museum in Golden Gate Park. A great mix of painting, sculpture and decorative artworks are featured including American, African, Oceanic and New Guinea art collections. The de Young Museum also offers world-class temporary exhibitions.

Before leaving the Golden Gate Park, the California Academy of Sciences is a great family friendly attraction that is housed in a state of the art “green” building with plenty of fascinating indoor exhibits. The Steinhart Aquarium has more than 900 species of marine creatures and The Morrison Planetarium is the biggest digital planetarium in the world. There is also a natural history museum and an interactive rainforest exhibit; with so many activities for the whole family, exploring the California Academy of Sciences is a great way to spend a cool winter day.

For a look at European paintings and ancient arts, illustrated books and a huge selection of 18th-century English and French porcelain, the Legion of Honor in Lincoln Park is a great spot to visit and provides unmatched views of the bay and the Golden Gate Bridge.

If you decide to stay local in Marin County, head over to the affluent community of Corte Madera, just moments from The Lodge at Tiburon. The Village at Corte Madera is home to Nordstrom, Macy’s and more than 65 specialty shops and restaurants.

And if it is a chilly day in Tiburon and you don’t feel like shopping or spending time outdoors, stop by the Railroad & Ferry Depot Museum in downtown Tiburon. This relatively unknown gem is located on the stunning waterfront with expansive views of the bay. This is a fantastic way to learn about the history of Tiburon – be sure to ask for a tour.
